Prayer of the Month:  Act of Love




Lent:
During the Lenten season we will gather each Friday morning to meditate upon the Stations of the Cross. We will also have Adoration on Wednesdays up in the Chapel.

Continue to practice:
      Sight words
      Reading, writing, counting and ordering #s to 30 or higher
      Reading and Writing—create simple sentences and stories 
       using our sight words and phonetic/inventive spelling.

Dates to Remember
3/2 Kindergarten Informational Night.  For new incoming families.
3/4 Minimum Day/All School Mass  (wear the Mass uniform)
3/8 School Mass 1 pm at St. Patrick’s Church
3/12-13 No School

Ash Wednesday/Lent
Lent begins this week. Our School family will gather in the auditorium for Mass and distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday, February 10th, at 8:15am. 

Valentine’s Day
We will celebrate St. Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 11th.
Students have free dress (wear red, white, or pink) and a special treat will be provided.   Please review the handbook regarding appropriate attire. 

Students are allowed to share Valentines with their classmates. There are 28 students in our class. Your child should write his or her name in the “from” space and leave the ”to” space blank. This makes passing out cards a breeze!

I wanted to express my gratitude to the many parents who volunteered contributed toward and worked on our class project for the Auction.  Thank you also to all who attended or worked at the auction. 

Catholic Schools Week Schedule:
Monday-  *Community Appreciation   
                * Movie With Faith Families

Tuesday-   *Buddy Day: Bring a gift for your buddy ($2-$3) 
                      Our Buddies are our 8th grade Faith Family Leaders
                *Bring a sack lunch---No Hot Lunch today or tomorrow. 
                *Blue and White Free Dress – wear OLM Spirit shirt.

Wednesday –   Cherish Luncheon.
                      *Bring a sack lunch---NO HOT LUNCH. 

 Thursday –     *  Bring a canned food item in and wear your favorite team gear.
                        *Game Day--Father/Son and Mother/Daughter Basketball Games 6:00p.m.

Friday –    *Drop Students off at St. Patrick’s Church.
                  Kindergarteners must have their car/booster seat.
Students are to arrive by 7:50 a.m. 
After Mass they will be driven from the church to school.
                  *Teacher vs. 8th grade volleyball game 11:30
                  *Dismissal is at 12:30

Catholic Schools Week:  Next week is a very busy week for us. Please note the dates and activities below so that the children are prepare for the many fun events that take place at this time.

Sight Words of the Week:  all, are, at, but

We are writing more and more every day.  It is important that they know the sight words and alphabet sounds (phonics).  Review these daily.  Also, please help your child practice at home writing simple sentences (ex. I see a rainbow.  It is big.  It is pretty.  I like the rainbow.)

Spirit Dress: 
This Friday is Free Dress.  

Catholic Schools Week:
The Sunday 9:00 Mass, January 31st, will kick off Catholic Schools Week.  Make sure your child wears their school uniform to the Mass if they are attending.  More information about the week will be in next week's blog.  

REMINDERS:
Please follow the dress code as outlined in the parent handbook.  Some items that are worn are not acceptable. Remember, leggings are not allowed only socks and tights are acceptable.  Boots are not part of the dress code.  A few children have been wearing the twill navy pant.  These are NOT uniform pants, only the corduroy pant is allowed.

Auction:  Our Annual Auction is Saturday January 30th.  Come support our school and have a good time!

Catholic Schools Week:
Catholic Schools Week is January 31st – February 5th.  There are many activities during this week. More information about the week will be in next week's blog.  We will need drivers for All School Mass on February 5th. If you want to drive make sure all appropriate paperwork is turned in to the office before Wednesday Feb.3rd.

REMINDERS:
Please follow the dress code as outlined in the parent handbook.  If your child is wearing pants, only corduroy pants are allowed.  Some items that are worn are not acceptable. Remember, leggings are not allowed only socks and tights are acceptable.  Boots are not part of the dress code.

Please check your child's homework before it is returned.

Welcome back to school, I hope that you all had a restful and wonderful vacation.  Mrs. De Leon, Mrs. Pedrozo and I would like to thank all of you for the very thoughtful cards, gifts and best wishes given to us for Christmas.  We are so thankful to have such wonderful parents and students.

Thank you also for all the Christmas Party goodies.  The children really enjoyed the snacks!

Homework Packets:  We will send out the new homework packet on Friday.

Report Cards: Report cards go home Friday. Please read, sign and return as soon as possible.

Take Home Books:  Every Monday and Wednesday we will be sending home "Little Readers" for you and your child to read together.  The folder will have a letter further explaining this packet.  Please fill out the attached form and return them the following day.  

OLM Auction:  The annual auction is coming up soon.  I encourage everyone to attend.  It is a fun evening and an excellent opportunity to meet other parents. 

Please label all sweatshirts and jackets.  There have been many lost or unclaimed jackets and sweatshirts recently.
